I am also a bookkeeper and I have a client who has a similar profile as what you described. The only difference is that she is single and does not have a husband, but takes care of a family member. What I have realized is that a lot of people have this number in their head that they’ve made up that they think is the number that means that they have made it. And once they start making this amount of money, which can actually truly be a lot of money so for example, my client makes roughly 50 K also for a single individual that that can be a lot of money and her mortgage is not very high, what happens is people think that that means that they can just automatically live this lifestyle where they just spend spend spend without thinking. Unfortunately, our society definition of middle class is that I should be able to get whatever nice house I want. I should be able to get whatever nice car I want. I should be able to go out and eat with my friends every day I should be able to take the vacations that I want to take and still have enough money left over. Unfortunately that is not the reality. Even if you do make 150 K you still have to live on a budget, you still have to be intentional about saving, you still have to pay attention to your money. You cannot live like a millionaire because you are not a millionaire. So I think that is the main issue, in my perspective I don’t think making slightly over $100,000 is really that big of a deal because you really do have to pay attention to your money more than you may think because the temptation to keep up with everybody else and driveluxury vehicle and live in a nice big house because you may have a title that goes with that level of income makes things a lot worse and you do have to pay attention.

You speak of wanting to know why people are not getting married? It is because laws within the state permit many Women to choose to divorce because they are unhappy in pursuit of financial, gain and to look for someone else. In many cases Women will regret the choice later, but at the moment Women know they can get alimony if being married and not working very much for so many years within the marriage. Women if they have children can collect child support as well as the Woman is usually favored in family court. The Problem I am noticing is that states make it easy to offer Women financial gain to leave her spouse to be supported by the government instead. This ruins the idea of marriage and families as a whole. Why choose to get married if they know there is a chance that his wife may one day be unhappy and want to leave him and take his money, the house, etc. It's a nightmare. He may feel and see that his wife could use it over his head and treat him poorly because she knows she can. This happens often. Women have standards that mostly involve financial gain and status, but not so much on commitment and love. It's hard to find that these days. The Bible says that a Man that finds a Wife finds a good thing, but a Wife is rare these days.

You don't have to be great to start but you have to start to be great. Just start then figure it out along the way.

I will say that her statement about piano keyboards.... I think it's completely true. I had a piano teacher a few years back that had grand pianos in his studio and they just had the most rich vibrant sound. And he made a comment one time because he composed a lot of music, that you have to have that beautiful sound coming back to you in order to compose. When I was able to I purchased a 7-ft grand Baldwin and have never regretted it even though I had to move it several times. It's so worth it. The sound is just there's no description for how it makes a person feel when they can play that beautiful piano and have that sound. I learned as a child but didn't continue and then took it up again as an adult and it is a huge part of my life. Obviously a grand piano takes a lot of room and most people don't have that room. But if you can at least get a quality studio piano like a Yamaha or that type, it makes a huge difference in your connection to the music in my opinion.

In Canada, couple lose money if they marry. The capital gain on primary residence is tax free. All increase in value is yours, Canada Revenue Agency does not take a dime. So, 2 individuals can have the capital gain from 2 houses if they are not legally married. But If they are married, the CRA will say, wait a minute which one is the primary residence? You are tax free only on the primary residence. in the last 20 years the home prices increased by 400% so, we are talking about huge gains here. What if the 2 individuals sell their houses and buy a bigger one? It might work from taxation perspective but guess what? Expensive houses do not increase in value that much.

In middle age, I earned a college degree through the Excelsior College she mentioned by "testing out" for various credits through AP, CLEP and other exams at great savings. How do you measure ‘good’. I think it’s completely possible. I started lots of instruments as an adult. Perhaps I don’t count if I already played something to a mediocre level as a child. But I spend a lot of time with adults who started as adults and are good. We go on specialist music study holidays together and learn from experts in the specific areas we are interested in. A big part of it is that the journey has to also be enjoyable, it’s not just about the destination. If you don’t enjoy learning then what is the point. This isn’t punishment. Glad you got to play piano.

that's a big investment upfront... Glad it worked out. Also, PSA not all keyboards are alike. Some have weighted keys to replicate the action of a real piano so don't feel like you have to spend 10K+ on a piano unless you know the extra benefits it brings
